  DM ELENOVSKI MEETS CANADIAN
COUNTERPART MACKAY

Defense Minister Lazar Elenovski met late Wednesday with Canadian Minister of National Defense Peter Gordon MacKay, MIA reports from Canada.
"Minister MacKay was impressed by the level of Macedonia's contribution in NATO peacekeeping missions, because a number of NATO member-states, which are larger, more powerful and economically stable, provide less", said DM Elenovski after the meeting.
Elenovski informed MacKay on the process of defense reforms, but also the entire transformation cycle in Macedonia, while his counterpart gave assurance that Canada's prior support for Macedonia's NATO membership would become even stronger.
Taking into account that Minister MacKay is a former foreign minister, and one of the creators of the decision for Canada's recognition of Macedonia under its constitutional name, Defense Minister Elenovski expressed gratitude for the political support.
DM Elenovski also met with the Speaker of House of Commons Peter Milliken. The meeting focused on reforms in defense, judiciary, economy, as well as Macedonia's progress in general.
Earlier, Elenovski met with Canadian MP Lui Temelkovski. The meeting, which was attended by Parliament's high officials and Albanian Defense Minister Fatmir Mediu, focused on cooperation of Adriatic Group countries, as well as Canada's support for their NATO accession.
"Canada, like Macedonia, is a multi-ethnic and multicultural society, and therefore the two countries understand these principles well", stated Elenovski.
Albanian Minister Mediu said he and Elenovski often travel together due to the joint goals of Macedonia and Albania.
"I know that we have a lot more to achieve, but I would like to stress that we have built a positive image and we are moving in the right direction", added Mediu.
Pertaining to Macedonia-Canada bilateral relations, MP Roger Valley informed that a Canadian-Macedonian diplomatic friendship group has been recently established. MP Temelkovski said that Canada's recognition of Macedonia under its constitutional name "came as a result of what we fought for in past years".
Moreover, Defense Minister Elenovski addressed the opening of the General Assembly of the Atlantic Treaty Association.
On Thursday, he will take part at a debate titled "NATO as Global Interest, or Global Interest in NATO". Elenovski is also scheduled to meet with Vice-Chair of the Parliament's National Defense Committee Claude Bachand, and will afterwards leave for Washington.

NEW ROUND OF MACEDONIAN - GREEK TALKS ON NAME ISSUE IN NEW YORK

Double formula - one name which will be agreed for bilateral communication with Greece and constitutional name for the rest of the world, is the official position of the Republic of Macedonia which will be presented at the new round of Macedonian - Greek talks on name issue which will be held Thursday in New York brokered by the UN mediator Matthew Nimetz.
- Preservation of the right of the constitutional name and its international usage is fundamental pillar of identity and dignity of the nation, Macedonian top officials assessed at the meeting prior to the meeting of the officials of the two countries Nikola Dimitrov and Adamantios Vassilakis at the UN HQ.
The UN mediator Matthew Nimetz in the written statement called the officials of Macedonia and Greece on fresh talks in New York said "I hope that through the resumption of these talks in the established channel we can lay the groundwork to more intensive discussions that will find a mutually satisfactory resolution of the name issue and related matters," Nimetz said in his statement.
Greek FM Dora Bakoyannis in the interview for Kathimerini said that Greece is prepared to a compromise by allowing FYROM to use some form of name "Macedonia" as long as the name will include other element, which will differ from the Greek northern region.
Also her father Konstantinos Mitsotakis urged for complex name as solution to the problem.
- Acceptance of the complex name is justified solution to the problem since the definition Macedonia is geographic concept and the former Yugoslav republic is part of Macedonia,” Mitsotakis said for Mega TV channel.
Official Athens in "messages" to Skopje threatens to block the Euro-Atlantic integration of Macedonia.
Macedonian FM Antonio Milososki in this week's interview with Greek Elefteros Typos newspaper said that during the upcoming talks in New York, Macedonia won't quit the double formula to resolve the name differences, Milososki added. As regards Greece's threats to veto Macedonia's integration into Euro-Atlantic community, Macedonian foreign minister made it clear that with the 1995 interim treaty, Athens undertook not to hamper the accession of its neighbouring country in the international organizations.
- Greece now recognises us as FYROM and we are partners, once Greece recognise us as Republic of Macedonia we will be allies. Everything is in the hands of Greece, FM Milososki said.
Due to Greek objections, Macedonia entered the UN in 1993 under the provisional name, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, FYROM, pending a resolution.
Since then, two-thirds of UN countries, including the USA, Russia and China, have recognised Macedonia under its constitutional name.
