FIRST NATIONAL STATEMENT FOR COMPETITION

On the 16th of December 2005 a promotion of the first National statement for competition of Macedonia was held in the building of the government of the Republic of Macedonia.
The general conclusion from the first statement for competition is that in the last year the competition of the Macedonian economy didn’t improve, and according to the index of growth of competition , the marks of competition of the domestic economy are showing that from 117 economies ranked in 2005-2006, Macedonia is on 85th place. The national statement for competition of Macedonia presents first statement of that kind in Macedonia. Statements with that kind of characteristics and content are been composed in many other states (developed or in transition) and for many years, which means that this Statement for competition of Macedonia will full field this emptiness. But, simultaneously, the value and the meaning of the Statement are actually bigger, because he, as well as the statements in other countries, should use as a base of defining of the directions of the future economic development of Macedonia. The Statement was made under patronage of the National council for entrepreneurship and competition. He has been worked according to the methodology of statements’ making for competition on the World Economic forum and is based on information by the Statement of global competition on the World Economic forum 2005-2006.
The Statement, as a reflection of actual conditions and argumentative recommendations, is intended to the relevant domestic and foreign economic and politic analysts and bearers of decisions, for their economic analysis, critics and proposals in defining assumptions for further creation of the economic development in Macedonia.

NEXT UN LEADER TO HAVE "THICK SKIN AND SENSE OF HUMOR", KOFI ANNAN SAYS

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan said Wednesday 2005 was a "real difficult" year because of devastating natural disasters and continuing conflicts in the Middle East and Africa.
He cited the tsunami that struck Indian Ocean nations and the earthquake in northern Pakistan, where recovery and shelter efforts are still underway.
"But I look forward to next year, my last year as secretary-general," Annan told a year-end news conference. He said he plans to focus on fighting poverty, environmental disasters, armed conflicts, terrorism and weapons of mass destruction in the months before his second five-year term ends next December.
He said his first term was easier than the second one, joking that some government leaders have similar problems.
He urged the next UN leader to have a "thick skin and a sense of humor" in addition to knowing how to listen and work effectively with the membership and government leaders. He warned, however, that it is easier to give advice than to implement it.
Annan, who won the Nobel Peace Prize, said, "I have done as much as I can in my terms. But this year has been a real difficult one for the world as well as for me, and I have drawn lessons from it."
Annan was shaken by findings in the oil-for-food scandals, and was blamed by investigators for its mismanagement and corrupted practices, particularly in procurement services. But he was not personally implicated in those corruption.
The oil-for-food programme provided food and medicine to Iraq from 1996 to 2003, using revenues from Iraqi oil sale to buy humanitarian goods. More than 100 billion dollars had been used in that scheme.
Annan urged UN members to make changes for a "UN fit for the tasks ahead," including approving a two-year administrative budget that would help implement those changes. He was referring to internal fighting between the bloc of developing countries and the European Union, which differed on how the budget for 2006-2007 should be drawn up.
The United States, like the E.U., is a strong proponent of UN reforms. But the U.S. has called for a quarterly budget, and threats to withhold successive budget approvals as a leverage to force through reform proposals, including strengthening management of the UN and more administrative power to the secretary-general.
Developing countries in the 191-nation UN General Assembly, which hold a majority of votes, are opposed to giving more authority to the secretary-general.
The assembly was scheduled to complete the budget before Christmas, but it now appeared unlikely because of continued disagreements among the membership. A draft budget calls for nearly 4 billion dollars for two years. The U.S. and Japan are the two largest contributors to the UN.
Annan turned to the appointment of the next secretary-general, which he said should go to an Asian by virtue of rotation among the world's regions. The last Asian who occupied the post, U Thant of Burma, did so in the 1960s.
