Ransfeld has given his thanks to us for Iraq

The American Secretary of defense, Donald Ransfeld, has given four American Army’s medals to the Macedonian solders that have participated in the actions in Iraq as part of the forces in the mission “Freedom for Iraq”.
On this occasion, he has also recommended that the Macedonian people have to choose between the future, which is EU and NATO and the past. The USA will continue to give help to Macedonia in its efforts to become member of the Alliance, but that process depends on the realization of the Ohrid Agreement and on the creation of stronger and more effective units of local government. He also thinks that the New Code for Territorial organization will provide stronger democracy in this country. USA will respect the independence and the territorial integrity of our country and the goal of Macedonia to become member of NATO.

PM KOSTOV MEETS SKOPJE NATIONAL LIBERATION WAR VETERANS

Prime Minister Hari Kostov had a meeting Wednesday with representatives of the Association of the National Liberation War (NOV) Veterans of the city of Skopje.
Association chairman Mile Stefanovski asked Kostov to brief the delegation about the developments in the country, i.e. the forthcoming referendum, power decentralization process and economic situation.
"I will not cast my vote at the forthcoming referendum, as it underlines the ethnic frustrations and presents a set back for the country's Euro-Atlantic integration," Kostov said, adding that Macedonia accession to the European Union and NATO is the Government's priority.
"An application of the Ohrid Agreement, constitutional amendments and laws, including those on power decentralization and territorial organization, is Macedonia's road to the EU and NATO," Kostov said.
He pointed out that claims of some Macedonian politicians about the Government using high foreign delegations, which visit the country, to give statements against the referendum were not grounded, as Macedonia has aspirations to join the EU and NATO, not vice-versa.
Kostov told the delegation that the Government would present the real situation in Macedonia answering to the European Union questionnaire.
"Macedonia will not directly enter the EU with a positive avis, but will only gain a candidate country status, opening the road for negotiations on necessary reforms for its accession to the European family," Kostov said.
Speaking about the economic situation, Kostov said the Government intended to conduct the necessary structural reforms, providing for equal market conditions.

MALRAUX SEMINAR ON THE TOPIC CULTURAL DECENTRALISATION

In co-operation with the Ministry of Culture and communication of France and the Ministry of Culture of Macedonia, within the joint project for cultural policy development in Macedonia, the Foundation Open Society Institute – Macedonia (FOSIM) and the French Cultural Centre Skopje (CCF), on October 14-15 organise Malraux seminar on the topic Cultural Decentralisation: Practices of France and Macedonia.
Macedonian Minister of Culture Blagoj Stefanovski and the French Ambassador to Macedonia Veronique Bujon-Barre delivered addresses at the seminar's opening.
Stefanovski greeting the seminar's participants said that the prominent French Minister of Culture Malraux had left a significant mark to all cultural reforms in France and opened roads to world's culture. Referring to cultural decentralisation Stefanovski said that Macedonia follows the world's examples and makes brave steps, especially because this process of transfer of power from central to local authorities is followed by many issues, fears and uncertainty. Macedonia uses French and other international practices for realisation of this process. "This gives us the right to consider that we are on the right path but it depends from us how we will walk it," Macedonian Minister of Culture said.
French Ambassador to Macedonia Veronique Bujon-Barre reminded that the co-operation between Macedonia and France began 30 years ago by opening of the French Cultural Centre in 1974. The co-operation strengthened in the past years by tour of the theatre groups, cultural institutions and artists.
