Митрополитот Методиј е еден од столбовите на акциите организирани и реализирани во битката за самостојна Македонска православна црква. Тој е првиот македонски владика од обновената МПЦ. Во 1959 бил произведен во протојерејски чин се’ до замонашувањето и изборот за Велички епископ на 12/13. III 1966, во Соборниот храм „Св. Благовештение“ во родниот град Прилеп. Во јули 1967 година бил избран и востоличен за архијереј на Дебарско-кичевската епархија што ја управувал до крајот на животот
Населението од Македонија, а особено прилепчани од каде е митрополитот Методиј се верници и страсни приврзаници на христијанската – православна вера. Затоа, уште од дамнина започнале да градат цркви и манастири, кои служеле и служат како најмасовни собиралишта на национално и верско обединување. Таквата љубов кон верата, кон нацијата, кон сопствената црква и кон Македонија, прилепчани заедно со другите Македонци од етничка Македонија ја продолжиле и на новите простори низ светот.
Прилепчани во нивната долговековна борба за своја сопствена држава, за национална и за културна слобода и независност, во исто време, се бореле и за независност на својата Православна црква. Затоа историјата на Македонците од Прилеп и Прилепско во изминатите векови секогаш била тесно врзана со Македонската православна црква.
Паркот на револуцијата во Прилеп
Меѓу тие прилепчани кои дале голем придонес и прилог кон вистината и иднината на Македонската православна црква беше, секако, митрополитот Методиј, чие мирско име е Ѓорѓи Попоски. Тој е роден на 27. III 1914 година во Прилеп, во градот на историјата и културата, на митовите и легендите, на вистините и премрежјата, на борбите и триумфите.
Во градот на митрополитот Методиј – Прилеп, на 11 Октомври 1941 година, кај Участакот, во бугарската полициска станица пукнала првата пушка, со што се означил почетокот на големото антифашистичко народно востание. Како резултат на слободата на Македонија Прилеп стана град кој е меѓу најопеаните и најубавите, а со околу осумдесетте илјади жители спаѓа и меѓу најголемите населени места во Република Македонија.
Прота Ѓорѓи Попоски (Митрополит Методиј) е роден на 27 март 1914 година во Прилеп. Своето основно образование го стекнал во родниот град Прилеп, каде завршил нижа гимназија. Во 1935 година завршил шестокласна Богословија во Битола, а потоа и Филозофски факултет (група историја) на Скопскиот универзитет.
На 27 октомври 1936 година. Ѓорѓи Попоски бил ракоположен за ѓакон, а за свештеник во јули 1937 година. Од 1938 година, Поповски бил вероучител во основното училиште во Прилеп, потоа парох на Прилепската парохија.
За време на Втората светска војна, Ѓорѓи Попоски бил поставен за парох при црквата „Св. Благовештение“ во Прилеп во 1941 година.
Во биографијата на митрополитот Методиј е запишано дека тој е прв владика од обновената Македонска православна црква. Во 1959 бил произведен во протојерејски чин, а во 1965 година е одликуван со највисоко свештеничко одликување во Македонската православна црква – граден крст. На таа должност бил се’ до замонашувањето и изборот за Велички епископ (12/13. III 1966), во Соборниот храм „Св. Благовештение“ во родниот град Прилеп. Во јули 1967 година бил избран и востоличен за архијереј на Дебарско-кичевската епархија што ја управувал до крајот на животот.
Така, во тие биографски податоци поединечно се вели дека во 1959 година прота Ѓорѓи Попоски бил произведен во протојерејски чин. Потоа, на 12 февруари 1966 година од тогашниот поглавар на Македонската православна црква, блаженоупокоениот Архиепископ Охридски и Македонски Доситеј бил замонашен во метохот на „Свети Наум“ во Битола. А изборот за Велички епископ се одржал на 12/13. март 1966 година, во родниот град Прилеп во Соборниот храм „Св. Благовештение“. Наречението и хиротонијата биле извршени од Архиепископот Доситеј и тогашните епископи на Македонската православна црква: Преспанско-битолскиот г. Климент и Злетовско-струмичкиот г. Наум.
Првите владици на МПЦ
Откако извесен период поминал како викарен Епископ, во јули 1967 година бил избран и востоличен за архијереј на Величката епархија со седиште во Охрид. Со епархијата, која подоцна е преименувана како Дебарско-кичевска, управувал сѐ до неговото упокојување.
Митрополитот Методиј е еден од многуте архиереи во историјата на Охридската Архиепископија, а денес Македонска православна црква, кој ја носел титулата Велички. Тоа е првата титула што ја имал и основоположникот на Охридската архиепископ, Свети Климент Охридски..
Оваа македонска епископија од страна на црковните историчари се смета за прва организирана Црква на Балканскиот Полуостров. Точната местоположба на Величката епархија се уште не е до крај разјаснето и постојат различни мислења, а најверојатно е дека ја опфаќала територијата од Охрид, по реката Tреска до Скопје.
Во МПЦ титулата на оваа епархија се доделува само на викарни архиереи. Светиклиментовата Величко-дремвитска епархија имала чист старомакедонски словенски карактер, се богослужело и администрирало на старословенски јазик и била почетокот на автокефалната Охридска архиепископија.
Според некои научници седиштето на епархијата било во Охрид, и се именувала како „Величка епархија“. Нејзиното име „Величка“ е добиено според името на реката „Велика“ или „Голема Река“. Тоа е исто како и современиот пример на именување на епархиите според имињата на реките, како што се: Брегалничката, Повардарската епархија и сл.
Величката епархија на свети Климента се простирала по течението на Велика Река – Голема Река – Треска, до Скопје. Според некои извори, пак, Величката епархија ја покривала територијата на некогашната Велика Моравија
Исто така, значајно е да се одбележи дека митрополитот Методиј е еден од првите четворица епископи на МПЦ избран по нејзиното возобновување и е еден од петтемина членови на Светиот архиерејски синод на Македонската православна црква, кои ја потпишаа историската одлука за прогласување на афтокефалноста на Македонската православна црква, донесена од учесниците на третиот Црковно-народен собор, одржан во Охрид, од 17 до 19 јули 1967 година.
Во историјата на МПЦ е забележано дека чин на незаборав е оној на 10 август 1969 година, или две лета откако беше назначен г. Кирил за епискол на новоформираната Американско канадско-австралиско-македонската епархија. Тогаш пред олтарот на црквата „Св. Климент Охридски“ во Торонто беше извршено востоличувањето – интронизацијата на Неговото високопреосвештенство митрополитот Американско-канадско-австралиски г. Кирил од Дебарско- кичевскиот архиереј митрополитот г. Методиј. На тој ден река од народ се слеваше од многу места и градови, нешто слично како неколку дена пред тоа на Илинденскиот пикник, меѓу кои беше и авторот на овој текст, Славе Катин. Некои дојдоа дури и два дена порано за да фатат место за многу значајниот настан.
Светата архиерејска литургија, во асистенција на сите свештеници од македонските црковни општини во САД и во Канада од страна на Дебарско- кичевскиот архиереј митрополитот г. Методиј и митрополитот г. Кирил беше отслужена на најсвечен начин, по што во името на Светиот архиерејски синод на МПЦ, митроплитот г. Методиј го воведе во архиерејскиот трон надлежниот епархиски архиереј.
Во спомен на првиот митрополит на Дебарско – кичевската епархија, Македонската православна црква одбележа 40 години од смртта на првиот митрополит г. Методиј надлежен на Епархијата по возобнувањето на Охрдската архиепископија во ликот на Македонската православна црква. Во таа пригода архиепископот Стефан, заедно со домаќинот митрополитот Тимотеј и повардарскиот митрополит Агатангел, во црквата „Успение на Пресвета Богородица“ – Каменско на 28 февруари 2016 отслужија света архиерејска Литургија.
„Св. Богородица- Каменска“ во Охрид – вечниот дом на митрополитот Методиј
Со Архиереите на МПЦ сослужуваа и архимандритот Нектариј, игуменот Агатон, протоерејот Никола Христоски, свештениците Димче Азески, Владо Недески и Ѓорѓи Блажевски, протоѓаконите Антонио Дујовски и Николче Ѓурѓиноски, како и ѓаконите Сашо Целески и Васил Ристовски.
Инаку, авторот на овој текст Славе Катин го познаваше и имаше контакти и соработка со митрополитот Методиј уште од 1969 година, кога во Македонската православна црква „Св. Климент Охридски“ во Торонто беше востоличен г. Кирил за епискол на новоформираната Американско канадско-австралиско-македонската епархија. Во тој период еден од претседателите на Црквата во 1968 година беше познатиот професор по музика и диригент на Црковниот хор, Филип Ангеловски, по потекло од Д’мбени, Егејска Македонија, а генерален секретар на Црковната управа беше Славе Николовски – Катин од Љубојно, Преспа. Тие, заедно со актуелните претседатели Симе Гаџовски и Тели Мариовче, со голем број верници, управите на црквата „Св. Климент Охридски“ и свештеникот Атанас Поповски ги направија подготовките за пречекот и престојот на владиката Методиј во Торонто, Канада.
Нашата соработка со митрополитот Методиј продолжи и по моето враќањето од Канада во Македонија и живеењето во Охрид, особено кога доаѓаа видни иселеници од сите делови на Македонија кои сакаа да се сретнат, да го видат, да разговараат со почитуваниот македонски владика Методиј, со кого им се отвораше Охрид со сета своја убавина, а тој како претставник на Македонската православна црква им ја јакнеше љубовта кон Македонија.
Првиот митрополит на дебарско-кичевската епархија по возобнувањето на Охридската Архиепископија во ликот на Македонската православна црква, митрополит Методиј, починал на 25 фебруар 1976 година, а гробот на блаженоупокоениот митрополит се наоѓа во храмот „Св. Богородица“ – Каменско, во Охрид.
