ДЕЛ ОД МОНОГРАФИЈАТА „ЛУ ВЛАШО – АМЕРИКАНСКИ СИН НА МАКЕДОНИЈА“
Мораш да имаш нешто во главата инаку никогаш нема да бидеш успешен.
Иако завршив стручно средно училиште, секогаш знаев дека ќе одам на колеџ. Прашањето беше само каде и кога ќе одам.
Моите родители, и двајцата, исто така влијаеа на мојата одлука само со тоа што претпоставуваа дека тоа ќе се случи. Тоа секогаш се претпоставуваше, се подразбираше.
Сепак, тоа не се случи со спортска стипендија.
Едно време мислев дека ќе можам. Многу се заинтересирав за кошарка и фудбал. Почнав да тренирам во Младинската асоцијација на млади христијани (YMCA), каде имаше тим кој играше со други регионални тимови и беше на 10 улици оддалечена од кај нас. Бев низок по раст, но тоа не ме спречи. Играв одбрана и бев одбранбен играч во фудбалскиот тим.
Но, кошарката беше мој спорт. Играв кога можев, и додека стигнав осмо одделение, бев доволно добар за директорот на училиштето да сака да ме врати да можам да играм уште една година за тимот Белден Биверс (Belden Beavers).
Тренерот на нашиот кошаркарски тим беше Боб Де Пјетро, кој исто така беше и помошник тренер во средното училиште Кентон Мекинли (Canton McKinley High School). Загубив повеќето од видот на тоа око од повредата на очниот нерв. Окото функционира, и можам нормално да си го живеам животот, но не можам многу да видам нешто што се наоѓа право пред мене. Веднаш научив, а во следните 70 години потврдив, дека има причина зошто господ ни дал две очи.
По таа повреда, завршија моите спортски денови. Им дојде крај на моите соништа за фудбал. Отштетата што ја добив за повредата на окото ми помогна да платам за колеџ, за мојот прв автомобил, и на крај, за мојата прва куќа. Една година поминав во Мекинли и потоа се префрлив во стручното средно училиште, Кентон Тимкен, насока книговодство.
Сепак, Кентон Тимкен добро ме подготви за колеџ и за периодот потоа. Беше навистина прекрасен и горд ден кога ја добив наградата за Заслужни поранешни ученици (Distinguished Alumni Award) во 2008 година, чест која не ја очекував, но сепак многу ја ценев.
