GRUEVSKI EXPECTS NO SERIOUS CHANGE IN AMERICAN POLITICS TOWARDS MACEDONIA
REGARDLESS OF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION WINNER
PM Nikola Gruevski in the interview with Voice of America's Macedonian
language service said that he did not expect any serious change in the
American politics towards Macedonia after US presidential elections in Nov.
- It is obvious that there are some differences in relation to Iraq and
other issues. However in regard to Macedonia I do not expect changes.
Generally the US not easily changes foreign policies – not briskly
especially when it comes to strategic partnerships. Macedonia and the US
have strategic partnership and from the previous, I would say – historic
experience, looking the US foreign policies, it is obvious that it does not
change the strategic partnerships overnight, it does not break already built
partnerships nor it does not easily built the new ones – also overnight. So
I do not expect any serious change in relation to the foreign policy towards
us, Gruevski said.
Answering journalist question whether changes of the American politics
towards Macedonia are possible if the Democratic presidential candidate
Barack Obama and his Vice Presidential Candidate Joe Biden win the
elections, having in mind the alleged closeness with the Greek lobby, PM
Gruevski said that he did not expect any drastic changes.
- Maybe there will be slight difference. However everyone that I have met in
the US Department of State and the political parties said that no serious
and large change could be expected. But it remains to see what will happen,
Gruevski said.
Regarding the announcements on new proposals for the name in Sept. during
the UN General Assembly, PM Gruevski said that continuous efforts in finding
solution for surpassing the name row exist.
- We are continuously making efforts for finding a solution for surpassing
the name problem. As in the past we will continue to make efforts in Sept.
and afterwards. We are not focused whether it will be in Sep. or Oct. For us
this is large and historic issue and it is important to be closed in a way
which will be acceptable for us and not because it is a month when UN
General Assembly takes place or in Oct. there is something else. So we do
not connect this issue with such events, Gruevski said who is paying a
working visit to the US.
He attended the National Convention of the Republican Party. |
