AT LEAST TEN WILDFIRES STILL ACTIVE IN MACEDONIA
The Crisis Management Center-CMC informed on Tuesday that at least ten
wildfires across the country are still active, whereas army members and
helicopters are engaged in the attempts to put them out.
In the vicinity of Makedonski Brod, four wildfires are raging, whilst the
one nearby Cresnevo village was contained.
In addition to about hundred soldiers, teams from the local forestry
enterprise, Jasen National Park and Rescue and Protection Directorate are
dispatched in the region to tackle the blazes.
The wildfire on Belasica mountain is still active and spreads towards its
northern side between Bansko and Svidovica villages. As of this morning,
firefighting teams are deployed at the site to make further attempts in
extinguishing the fire.
After containing the fire over Kuckovo village, Skopje region, it rekindled
yesterday afternoon due to the strong wind and crossed the Macedonian side
through the Kosovo border. The firefighting brigade intervened over the
night with several of its personnel.
The wildfire that was transferred from Greece on Kajmakcalan mountain is
still active and its containment is made difficult due to the inaccessible
terrain.
Also due to inaccessible terrain, a wildfire in Matejce village near
Kumanovo is still active and it is possible to be put out only with
helicopters, CMC said.

PARLIAMENT TO DEBATE ON FIVE
CONTROVERSIAL LAWS
The Parliament of Macedonia will resume Tuesday its 18th session with an
agenda that includes the five controversial laws - on labour relations,
expropriation, lobbying, legal professions and on foreign affairs. President
Branko Crvenkovski has refused to sign the decrees on promulgation of these
laws, therefore they cannot enter into force.
The first four laws will be deliberated for the third time and the law on
foreign affairs for the second time at a parliament session. On Monday, the
Parliament enacted changes to the Energy Law. Its decree was amongst those
unsigned by the President.
SDSM has submitted 28 amendments in connection to the controversial laws to
the Parliament, whereas on August 22 the Federation of Trade Unions of
Macedonia (SSM) filed 13 amendments referring to the Labour Law, thus
expressing its discontent with certain aspects of the law.
Today's agenda also includes motions on amending the Law on Protection of
Children, the Public Prosecution Law and on adopting Anti-Litter Law. |
