  PROJECT DIGITAL ARCHIVES
OF MACEDONIAN LANGUAGE PROMOTED

The first Digital Archives of Macedonian Language was promoted Wednesday in the Macedonian Academy of Science and Arts (MANU).
The project is supported by the Government, within manifestation "Year of Macedonian Language".
"It it very important that we care about the Macedonian language, its purity, regular use, and true meaning. I hope that the Digital Archives will gradually enrich, enlarging its comprehensiveness, and improving its technical quality", said at the promotion MANU vice-president, academician Bojan Soptrajanov.
President of the "Year of Macedonian Language" Board, Liljana Popovska stressed the project's significance due to its electronic presentation of the most important texts in Macedonian language.
"Anyone can search, quote parts of Macedonian language texts. Authentic speakers of 80 years ago from the Salonica region in Northern Greece of today will be presented at the Internet. I think we cannot find a better argument on the depth of the Macedonian roots, authenticity of the Macedonian identity", stated Popovska.
According to her, the project would be an introduction in future research by followers and friends of the Macedonian language, who can learn more about us and our identity through the materials.
Project coordinator, professor Marjan Markovic said it would contribute to the availability of these digital books worldwide.
"These are the strongest arguments not only on the existence and authenticity of the Macedonian language, but also its history, since it encompasses texts by foreign scholars who showed interest in Macedonian dialects from Aegean Macedonia (Salonica region), and Albania (Korca region) 70-80 years ago", said Markovic.

BOSKOSKI AND TARCULOVSKI JUDGEMENT TO BE RENDERED THURSDAY

The Judgement in the case of Ljube Boskoski and Johan Tarculovski will be delivered on Thursday at 14:15 hours in Courtroom I by the judges Kevin Parker, Christine Van den Wyngaert and Krister Thelin in the Hague Tribunal.
Macedonian delegation comprised of Justice Minister Mihajlo Manevski, Interior Minister Gordana Jankulovska, Minister of Transport and Communications Mile Janakieski and VMRO-DPMNE MP Vlatko Gjorcev will be present at the Courtroom in the Hague.
Boskoski, a former Macedonian Interior Minister, and a security aide of his, Tarculovski, stood trial on charges of war crimes allegedly committed during August 2001 by forces under their control in the village of Ljuboten, near Skopje.
The defence counsel asked for acquittal of Boskoski and Tarculovski, since it believes the prosecution has not offered any evidence on their guilt in Ljuboten case.
Both had pleaded not guilty on all charges at the first hearing before the Judicial Council of the Hague Tribunal.
The hearing of a total of 64 witnesses of prosecution and defence ended on March 18. Around of 1,200 evidence documents were presented and witness hearing minutes include over 11,000 pages.
The Hague prosecutors justified the indictment, and asked for a 15-year prison sentence for Tarculovski, and 12 for Boskoski.
Ljube Boskoski is charged on the basis of superior criminal responsibility and Johan Tarculovski is charged with individual criminal responsibility.
According to the indictment, on 12 August 2001 members of a police unit commanded by Tarculovski conducted an unlawful attack on Ljuboten during which seven ethnic Albanian men died, at least 14 houses were intentionally set alight and more than 100 ethnic Albanian male village residents detained and subjected to beatings, humiliation, harassment and psychological abuse.
It is also alleged that Boskoski, in his capacity as Minister of Interior of the Republic of Macedonia, knew or had reason to know that his subordinates had committed crimes, and he, as superior failed to take necessary and reasonable measures to punish perpetrators.
The trial commenced on 16 April 2007 with the Prosecution’s case ending on 6 December 2007. The Defence cases commenced on 30 January 2008 and were completed on 18 March 2008. The closing arguments took place between 6 and 8 May 2008.
This is the Tribunal’s only case concerning the six-month conflict in the Republic of Macedonia.
Ljube Boskovski was extradited from Zagreb on March 24 2005. Boskovski until his departure to Hague was detained for several months in pre-trial confinement in Pula, Croatia. The Croatian police arrested him upon the request of the Macedonian authorities since he was charged considering the Rastanski Lozja case. The primary Court Skopje 2 and the Appellate Court have acquitted him from the charges. The Macedonian Justice Ministry announced to withdraw the case from Croatia.
Tarculovski was extradited on March 16, 2005.
Hague judges rejected twice Boskovski and Tarculovski lawyers' request to defend themselves while on bail, even though the Macedonian Government provided guarantees for their availability to the Tribunal at any time.
Hague investigators in 2002 began an inquiry on five cases related to the 2001 conflict. Only one formal procedure regarding the Ljuboten case was brought before the Hague Tribunal.
The remaining four cases, which were an interest of investigation - closing of the Lipkovo dam, abusing construction workers, the mass grave in Neprosteno and NLA high commanders - are returned to Macedonian authorities.
