SALARIES OF STATE AND PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION TO INCREASE BY 34 PERCENT, PENSIONS BY 20 PERCENT

The Macedonian Government has passed a decision for increase of salaries of state and public administration by about 34 percent in period October 2007 - October 2009, announced Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski at Wednesday's press conference.
According to him, the salaries' increase would begin in October, annually amounting to 10 percent, encompassing 108,114 employees in the state and public administration - civil servants, employees in the education sector, culture, child protection, social protection, ministries, judiciary, health sector, MPs, ambassadors and employees in diplomatic-consular offices, public enterprises etc.
Pensions are to be increased by about 20 percent in a period of three years, starting from January 1, 2008.
"The increase of salaries, pensions and VAT reduction for medicines are all measures for improvement of the citizens' living standard following the series of undertaken activities by the Government for the country's economic revival", said PM Gruevski.
The total amount of funds required for this purpose annually ranges from Denar 2,7 to 3,5 billion, i.e. one percent of the GDP. Gruevski said that he did not expect the measures to have an effect on the inflation rate.
The International Monetary Fund has been informed on the Government's decision.

EXPERTS FORECAST NEW GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS, "NEZAVISIMAYA GAZETA"

The crisis involving the US market for mortgage rates prompted the experts to forecast new collapse of the Russian financial system, reads the analysis in the Moscow-based Nezavisimaya Gazeta newspaper.
Quoting an expert, the newspaper states that new global financial crisis is brewing in the future three years. The world is entering into a process of recession, which will inevitably reflect in Russia, not only in the field of finances but also in economy.
- There are no serious threats for Russia and its banking system for now, despite the forthcoming parliamentarian and presidential elections, another experts says, adding the fever at the market of funds will resume for an indefinite period of time.
Russia is integrated in the world economy and therefore the severe crisis, which is expected in 2008, will grip the country as well. The federation's consequences will be less damaging due to its "safety valve" - the large gold and foreign currencies reserves and the stabilisation fund.
The increase of prices in Russia, the lack of social protection, unemployment and corruption are deemed as serious menace by the citizens of Russia more than crime or terrorism. The economy-related problems cause the biggest concern within the population, despite the everyday expectations for salaries' increase, Russian experts claim.
