MACEDONIA HIGH OFFICIAL
ATTENDS WB DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE
Macedonian Vice-Prime Minister Zoran Stavrevski is taking part at the Annual
World Bank's Conference on Developmental Policies ABCDE 2007, taking place
in the Slovenian town of Bled.
Representatives of WB and high-ranking officials from Europe, Africa and
Asia will discuss the modalities for improvement of the business climate,
private sector development and other issues at the meeting dedicated to the
private sector and development.
The list of attendants includes also representatives of international
financial institutions, universities and research institutes.
WASHINGTON WILL NOT ACT
UNILATERALLY ON KOSOVO INDEPENDENCE
The US assistant secretary of state said Wednesday Washington would not make
any unilateral move to recognize independence for the breakaway Serbian
province of Kosovo.
Daniel Fried told reporters that talks in Moscow between US Secretary of
State Condoleezza Rice and Russian President Vladimir Putin and his foreign
minister failed to bridge deep differences over the future status of the
province, but said Washington would continue to pursue a resolution within
the UN Security Council.
"We see no advantages whatsoever of taking action outside of the Security
Council, we see only disadvantages in every way. A security council
resolution in this matter is better", Fried said during a short stop at NATO
headquarters.
Fried warned that moves to declare Kosovo's independence without the UN's
blessing would be dangerous. "As a factual matter, its probably the case
that independence is coming one way or another, it's coming in a way that is
supervised, therefore controlled and therefore better off for everyone",
Fried said.
PRINCE HARRY WON'T SERVE IN
IRAQ
Prince Harry, the third in line to the throne, will not be sent to serve in
Iraq after military commanders decided it was too dangerous.
The Ministry of Defence said specific threats made by insurgent groups
against Harry, including listing him as a kidnap target, had made any
deployment far too risky.
"I've decided the risk to Prince Harry is too great", Richard Dannatt, the
head of the army, told reporters.
"I've also decided that the risk he brings to his troop and his squadron ...
is also too great".
Dannatt said he knew that Harry, as a dedicated professional soldier, would
be greatly disappointed by the news, but said the risks outweighed those
considerations.
"There have been a number of specific threats, some reported some not
reported, which relate directly to Prince Harry as an individual", Dannatt
said. |
