UN ENVOY MATTHEW NIMETZ TO VISIT MACEDONIA

UN Secretary General Special mediator in Macedonian-Greek talks on name dispute Matthew Nimetz will visit Macedonia on Thursday.
Nimetz is scheduled to meet President Branko Crvenkovski, Prime Minister Vlado Buckovski and Foreign Minister Ilinka Mitreva.
Regarding the announced visit of Nimetz to Macedonia, Crvenkovski said two days ago that it would not be Nimetz's first visit to the country.
"He visits Macedonia and Greece from time to time, in order to be informed on the positions regarding the disputable issue of the countries' highest officials", he said.
The President reiterated Macedonia's position on the name dispute, i.e. the so-called "double formula" - one name used by Greece in the bilateral communication with Macedonia, and usage of the country's constitutional name by the rest of the world.
"Macedonia's position on the name dispute remains because we think that that is a principal position and there is no need to change it", Crvenkovski said.
Skopje and Athens continued last Friday the talks about the dispute on Macedonia's constitutional name at the UN Headquarters in New York under Nimetz mediation. After the talks, Nimetz said they could not last forever, underlining the necessity for finding a solution to the dispute.
Next round of talks is scheduled for late February.
The talks on the name dispute under UN auspices were initiated after the signing an interim bilateral agreement on cooperation in 1995, and lifting the unilateral Greek trade embargo.
