Assimilation of Macedonians in Serbia
“Macedonians in Serbia and Montenegro are loosing their own national
identity”- this is a comment of Lidija Demnieva, president of Association of
the Macedonians in Belgrade.
According to her, the legal regulations for the minorities in Serbia and
Montenegro are acceptable for us, but we Macedonians are not using them. |

Macedonian
political party in Albania The main theme of The Second Conference of
the Community of Macedonians in Albania, held in Tirana, was how Macedonians
must be politically organized for having their representatives in the
authority of the Albanian society. For that purpose the representatives from
the associations “Mir”, “Prespa”, “Gora”, and “Med” had formed special
working group. The assignment of this group will be to propose a solution
how to animate the Macedonians to take part in the political life, as soon
as possible. |

The Council
of Europe is asking a new census in Albania The monitoring committee
of Council of Europe had re-warned the Government of Albania that the
undertaken obligations for entering in EU must be fulfilled as soon as
possible. These obligations are about providing the rights of national
minorities. Strasburg is demanding finely to be created concrete statistic
information about the number of minorities and about the place of their
leaving. Strasburg suggests a new census in Albania. |

New members
in NATO The Macedonian prime-minister Branko Crvenkovski had
participated in the ceremony in USA on which there was a promotion for
entrance of the seven countries of Eastern Europe in NATO. The American
president George Bush had greeted the entrance of the Eastern European
countries in NATO “as full righted and equal partners”. Also he said that
with their entrance in NATO, the Alliance will become much stronger. On this
ceremony were present the prime-ministers of Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia,
Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia; also there were present the
prime-ministers of Croatia and Albania which are candidates for membership
in NATO, general secretary of NATO Jaap de Hop Shefer, members of the
American administration, members of the Congress and members of the
Washington diplomatic core. |

Trajanov is
again leader of DS The last president of DS Pavle Trajanov was
re-elected for leader of “Demokratski sojuz”. This was decided on the Second
annual meeting which took place in Skopje on the 28 of March. On this
meeting was also elected a new Central Committee with 61 members. |

“Air Vardar”
without license for flying
The time is up of the license for the flying of the company “Air Vardar”.
This license was given temporary, for six months, under condition- in this
period to be provided all the necessary standards. The provider of this
license was the Head office for civil airway traffic. The Inspection (UCVP)
has established that in this new company “Air Vardar” the necessary
standards are not fulfilled. |

Steelyard
for the poverty in our country The World Bank will conduct a new
estimation for the poverty in Macedonia. According to the World Bank, the
dates from the Institute for statistic are not giving real image of the
current situation. Estimations of the Institute for statistic are that 30%
of the population or more than 600 000 people in this country are poor.
According to the Institute of statistic every man who has income lower then
130 denars for a day or has income of 3900 denars for a month is poor.

Inefficient
justice system and bigger corruption
The annual report of the European Committee for the Republic of Macedonia
contains critical notes for inefficient justice system and for big
corruption in our country. European Committee has notified that there is too
much politicking in the Republic Court Council and that the citizens have no
trust in the justice system. To over come this inefficiency, the Committee
suggests: cases for the corruption with enough evidences to be solved. The
State Committee against corruption have pledged for solving this cases.

The Agency
for Privatization will not be abrogated The Agency for Privatization
of the Republic of Macedonia wasn’t abrogated on 31of March, as it was
previously announced and its work will continue until the end of this year.
This was the final decision of the Government which was announced by the
spoke person of the Government, Saso Colakovski. |

Industrial
production is reduced
Industrial production continues to decline. It’s reduced for 38 % in
February 2004 regarding to the same month last year. In the first two months
of 2004, volume of the industrial production has declined for 31,3 %
regarding to the same period last year. |

Strike of
the railway men is stopped The general strike was stopped after the
agreement between the Trade-Union of “Makedonski Zeleznici” (Macedonian
railways) and the Ministry for transport and connections. In the general
strike were included all independent trade-unions of “Makedonska Zeleznici”:
trade-union of railroad engineers, trade-union of traffic personnel and
independent trade-union of MZ. After the negotiations of the strikers with
deputy minister for transport and connection, Dejan Kosutic, they agree that
the list of redundancies workers will not be announced before confirmation
of the social package. The leaders of the trade-union have taken over the
obligation that during the negotiations will not be blocking of the railway
traffic. |

A legal
code against domestic violence With changes in the Family Code, in
Macedonia for the first time will be imposed sanctions for domestic
violence. These changes in the Code are in Parliamentary procedure. In this
Code the novelty is a new chapter which will treat the violated relations
and violence in the marriage and family. The legislative is categorically
emphasized that any kind of violence in the marriage and in the family is
forbidden. Also there will be changes in the part of the Code which refers
to adoptions. |

Many foster
parents are waiting to adopt children The annual numbers of requests
which are submitted for adoptions are 235 and only 155 of them are
successful. Each year the number of foster parents is increasing and
currently there are approximately 560 foster families which are waiting to
adopt. In the other hand, each year the number of children which are put in
for adoption is reducing. |

OIL PIPELINE AMBO WILL PROVIDE ANNUAL PROFIT OF $20-30
MILLION TO MACEDONIA
Functioning of oil pipeline
Albania-Macedonia-Bulgaria AMBO will provide an annual profit of $20-30
million to Macedonia, long-term jobs, and development of other accompanying
industries, Chairman of corporation AMBO, Ted Ferguson stated on Wednesday.
For these countries, AMBO will mark
the entrance in a new era for mutual integration in the European Union,
added Ferguson, who takes part at the Forum for Investments in Energetic,
which is being held at the Skopje Fair.
A total of $1,2 billion are necessary
for full construction of the oil pipeline. Several significant companies
from the oil industry and large banks have already promised support in
amount of $700 million. The other funds will be provided from private
investors, and will be returned with the oil transport, and according to
Ferguson, interest by some of the renowned oil companies is of essential
significance for these projects.
Besides the financial support, a
significant point in the beginning of activities of the AMBO project will be
the signing of an agreement for construction among Macedonia, Albania and
Bulgaria, which text is being coordinated at the moment. "If the agreement
with the AMBO project is signed, we can perform before the investors and
begin with the work", Ferguson stressed, expecting that the agreement will
be signed in two months at most.
If everything goes according to plans,
the building of the oil pipeline could begin in 2005. According to Ferguson,
its finalization will require 2,5 years.
Out of the 900 km of the oil pipeline
350 km should pass through Macedonia. |
